Rattler

A perfect distortion pedal for you.

The JAM Pedal Rattler is a distortion pedal that inputs an electric influence to your guitar output as well as a complete bass influence and character.

A few names pop up regularly when it comes to overdrive and distortion pedals. These include Tubescreamers, Klons, and even the legendary Boss Metalzone MT-2, which are just a few of the names that come to mind. These pedals are worth the hype because they are monumentally important ones that influenced subsequent drive pedals.

The Pro Co RAT is another amazing pedal that has been forgotten because of low sales. For many, including most of us here at Tonepedia, it is, however, one of the best. This Pro Co RAT is almost identical to the JAM Pedal Rattler.

The JAM Pedal Rattler: A simpler and lighter recreation

This pedal is similar to its twin “The JAM Pedal Rattler Bass” in every way except that it is not a bass pedal. It also has some major differences in its structures; we will check that out later. While striking chords, the JAM Pedal Rattler, like the Pro Co RAT, veers into the distortion/fuzz region with a non-smooth break-up.

If you hit lead notes on this pedal, it sounds much like an amp, so you can hear it singing pleasantly. Due to the aforementioned gritty chords, it makes you feel like you’re in a rugged stance. This pedal is very interesting because many famous guitarists have used it to produce excellent guitar effects. These include Nels Cline, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Robert Randolph, and many others.

The body of the JAM Pedal Rattler is white, with a black rattlesnake illustration crawling across its surface. Unlike its “Bass twin”, it weighs about 250g and has three control knobs instead of four. It has a modern footswitch for two gain settings. It works on a 9V DC centre negative, 18mA power supply. The jacks of this pedal are mounted on both sides, and its dimensions are 3.2cm (Height), 6cm(Width), and 11.1cm (Depth).

Conclusion: What TonePedia thinks about this pedal

The JAM Pedal Rattler is a lighter version of the “Rattler Bass” pedal. It is a popular effect pedal that has been used to create magic by guitarists; its distortion and fuzz effects are commendable.

We have the original version of the small box RAT on TonePedia; you can also find this pedal and its bass version here. You can now experience these three pedals side by side on our demo player.
