The Sound Of Modern Metal

In the 1990's guitar playing changed in a BIG way, most of us know the story... bands such as Nirvana held a knife to the virtuoso's of the 80's and many felt the guitar solo would be lost to the tides of time.
One virtuoso of that period was working on a new amp with Peavey, this master of tapping and dive bombs was well known for using Plexi's/superleads originally then going through a few others such as soldanos. Eddie wanted something he could find in any shop world wide and get the same tones.

This move was going to be something special but did they know the impact it would have?

Jump ahead a few years and the Nu-Metal genre had come and gone giving way to metal bands such as the amazing Machine Head who now use 6505's throughout their backline. In fact many of the biggest bands from 2000 on-wards were using 5150's and then the 6505's (Named to celebrate Peavey's 1965 - 2005 40 year anniversary). This included the likes of Trivium, Bullet for my valentine and Enter Shikari all of whom were charting regularly and still can today.

So that's some history but what is this amp and why is it special? Firstly it was built from the ground up with one thing in mind ... how much gain can we get out of an amp while still making it sound great. Part of the solution was a cold bias on the preamp section then later on near 2000 the power amp had some modifications for the combos which were so good they made it onto the the 5150 ii.

The modern 6505 benefits from nearly 30 years of tweaking and improvements, this model includes an improved clean channel, pre and post EQ gain adjustment and tweakability of the the power stage via the presence and resonance controls. Featuring 3 channels (Clean, Crunch and Lead) the is a versatile beast capable of presenting any type of modern guitar sound and some classic tones which may surprise you.
