There are a lot of PAF replicas on the market, we have a bunch of them on TonePedia.
Each set copies the originals in different ways and to different levels of authenticity. Wizz’s may just be one of the most authentic we have encountered.
For example, Wizz make their own base plates not only from the same materials as original PAFs but they specified the ratio of Nickel/Silver to match those found in Gibson’s 1958 base plates. They did this by testing original examples in a lab.
The tools they use to make the pickups had to be vintage correct. That’s right, even the parts you don’t buy, or ever see!
The tool markings of the originals have been matched perfectly, the colour of the bobbins, and even the mould marks and numbers inside the bobbins are replicated.
The list goes on and on but we think you get the idea, among a small number of other makers, Wizz pickups are as close as it gets to the real thing. Each component works towards an authentic classic PAF tone.
