Golden Child

Universal Audio (UAD) has finally entered the pedal world and the Golden Reverberator is their contribution to the reverb world.

UAD has one of the longest and most well-defined histories but mainly within the studio equipment world. This does extend to some of the greatest DAW pedals and amp plug-ins on the market but never before real pedals. The release of the pedals was interesting because the reactions mostly centred around, “oh wow” and “about time”.  So what is it that makes these pedals so exciting and do they live up to the hype?

The New Range

The three pedals individually cover Modulation (Astra), Delay (Starlight) and this, the Golden Reverberator. This is similar to the approach of BOSS and Strymon so UAD was looking to fill big boots. The results are smaller and easier to use than their competition but do lack their sheer number of modes.

Modes & Settings

Like the other pedals in the range, the Golder Reverberator has three main modes and each of which is subdivided into three variations of that mode.

The 3 Main reverb modes are:

• Spring 65 – based on classic Fender amp spring tanks with added attention to tank related sounds.
• Plate 140 – replicating studio plate reverbs from a very specific German studio
• Hall 224 – 3D sound with a vintage edge reminiscent on 70’s digital reverbs

I/O

The I/o (ins and outs) are as you would expect to find on a leading reverb pedal. The Golden Reverberator features stereo ins and outs and a 9v power input. There’s also a USB C input and a pair button, but why?

Updatable

The USB input and the Bluetooth app/functionality allow musicians to change modes and delve deeper into settings. UAD promise to provide updates for the pedals overtime with new tones and features.
