B&G Guitars

B&G Guitars was founded by Eliran Barashi and Yotam (Kiki) Goldstein, skillful and expert luthiers in the field of vintage guitars from the golden era, and Avi Goldfinger – an artist and entrepreneur.

From the B&G Guitars website:
We are devoted to one thing only – creating the best sounding instruments on the market.

Our guitars are gimmick free. We create a full perfectly well-balanced unique and original instruments that will grow on you, we build instruments that will ignite your passion for the only thing that matters – playing the guitar.

Our designs are the outcome of our secret sauce we found to be the golden rule in creating great instruments, and the result of a meticulous study of what made models from early 20’s to the mid 50’s such timeless classics.

In order to create the best sounding guitars we have one simple rule - everything must be made by ourselves:
We cast our own brass hardware from a unique alloy that conducts the fullest frequency range, we even use thick brass pickup covers to isolate the coils instead of pressed tin covers.
We wind and make our own pickups, we mix and blend our own paint and nitro lacquer and we use our rare stock of aged wood such as Brazilian Rosewood, African Mahogany, Honduran Mahogany and Eastern maple (some of it is 90 years old!)
We even make the glue and grain filler we use.

The result is consistency in the quality and the sound of our instruments. As a small workshop, we control and pay very careful attention to crafting the sound. If it’s not perfect to our ears it doesn’t leave the shop.

Our main approach is the Plug and Play - that is, a great electric guitar must sound great when you plug it to a clean amp and there is only one cable between the amp and the instrument.

We love what we do.

B&G Guitars Caletta All Mahogany

Like nothing you've ever heard before. At first sight the B&G Private Build Caletta acoustic guitar raises a question. Is it an OM? GA? In fact it’s none of these things neither is it any other body shape you’d be familiar with. The Caletta's body shape sits somewhere between the traditional 00 to 000 shapes, designed by B&G as a solution to the lack of bass on smaller bodied guitars yet maintaining the ease of play. This unique body shape, along with the hand-voicing technique applied to the guitar's top and selection of premium woods make the Caletta a truly unique and wonderful instrument. The all Mahogany guitar demoed delivers an ultra fast, sensitive response making it a superb choice for fingerstyle techniques. The guitars responsive nature means it’s also capable of going from soft to aggressive playing in a heartbeat. We have found its dry brown tone to be very pleasant and works well in front of a microphone. As for playability, the Caletta guitars are comfortable to work with and extremely lightweight. Take into account that these guitars may not fit the player who constantly plays above the 12th fret. These guitars are a great example of the good things that can happen when innovation meets tradition.

The Pau Ferro/Spruce guitar we have demoed is really one of the nicest Pau Ferro guitars we have had in the studio. Pau Ferro on back&sides of acoustic guitar is something unique, while it looks like Rosewood it is in fact closer to Maple in tone but with a little more overall balance. It is bright, but not too bright, and the mid range is a bit more emphasised on the Pau Ferro. While the bass is definitely there, it is not overtaking other frequencies and the result is a nice sounding guitar for pick as well as finger playing. As for playability, the Caletta guitars are comfortable to work with and extremely lightweight. Take into account that these guitars may not fit the player who constantly plays above the 12th fret. These guitars are a great example of the good things that can happen when innovation meets tradition.

This unique body shape, along with the hand-voicing technique applied to the guitar's top and selection of premium woods make the Caletta a truly unique and wonderful instrument. The Caletta Private Build Mahogany/Spruce is what we think the best of both worlds. Thanks to this wood combination and the fact that the top (like on all Caletta Guitars) is 20 years air dried, this guitar is great for fingerstyle as well as pick pick, a sad melody or a rhythmic song. The simplicity in its looks made us feel we are playing on an instrument that wants to be played rather than sit on a fancy stand. Sitting on the lower scale of the Caletta Private Build price range, it is one you ought to consider.

The Caletta Private Build Ziricote/Spruce is to us the blues girl in the family. The minute we took it out of the case, this guitar made us think of Eric Clapton (Eric if you read this make sure to check this guitar out). Also the Ziricote wood that B&G chose for this guitar is really stunning and from what we know about B&G, it's safe to assume that every wood they choose for their guitars is on the same levels of quality. As for playability, the Caletta guitars are comfortable to work with and extremely lightweight. Take into account that these guitars may not fit the player who constantly plays above the 12th fret. The B&G Private Build Koa/Spruce Caletta is an extremely accurate sounding guitar. It does not deliver heaps of bass and stays pretty clear no matter what you play. That makes it a great candidate for band use and fast playing, where you want each and every mute and tone to be heard. As for playability, the Caletta guitars are comfortable to work with and extremely lightweight.
