Martin D-15 1999

About this guitar:
Features:
The Martin D-15 is the cheapest Martin Dreadnought with a solid top. I think that its price is around 800$ and it gives excellent value for the money. It has a Mahogany back and sides and has a more rare feature that the top is Mahogany too, giving it a unique looks. It has a very subtle satin finish and is very lightweight. It is simple and not fancy- a true folk guitar. Mine is from 1999. I think that at some point Martin moved to a different less dark type of mahogany for this model and the newer D-15's I played weren’t as nearly good as mine in my opinion.
Tone
The D-15 is warm and woody. It has a dry and airy sound. It has a really good thumpy bass response and lacks the metallic high mid frequency that a lot of acoustics posses.
This makes this guitar very crispy but also dark and warm at the same time. It is very percussive and ideal for folkish intensive strumming.
It is not very powerfull and has little projection, sparkle and sustain but rather has a more sweet folky vibe.
Playbility
The D-15 on the other hand is no less then perfect on that account. Tuning wise it is the most stable guitar I have played. Never goes out of tune and when you use a digital tuner the lights are steady as rock. It has an amazing soft feeling neck like butter.
