tc electronic, Dark Matter by tc electronic

Dark Matter Distortion aims to give you that powerful, super-musical roar of an early plexi - a sound that will satisfy even the pickiest players out there. We are confident we have achieved just that, and this is one of those pedals you have to try to believe what it can actually do for your distorted sounds.

From cleans with an attitude and warm bluesy tones to a crunch with grit for days and fully saturated lead sounds full of harmonics and overtones, it’s all here in spades and instantly available by riding your guitar’s volume knob. Dark Matter distortion is built from the highest-grade components, features an easy-access battery hatch and has a conveniently small footprint.

At TC Electronic, we love great and musical distortion. As guitarists, we know all about the pure bliss an A-power chord through an amazing overdriven amp gives, and as world-class guitar pedal manufacturers, we know exactly how to obtain that sound through a pedal.

So, we decided to focus on a distortion sound that brings your tone to life. We want to give you distortion sounds that spice up your riffs and solos in a way that makes you feel like you are playing the ‘Enormodome’; distortion sounds so mean you should really have a license to operate them.

Introducing Dark Matter Distortion, we are proud to be loud!

A whole bunch of crunch
Dark Matter Distortion defines instant gratification and will become the go-to pedal on your board for distortion. Initially, you simply plug it in and start rocking, but its many great sounds will have you playing with it for years to come. From bluesy crunch to full-on vintage cranked, but always very musical distortion sounds, this pedal was designed for the guitarists that like things a bit (or very) dirty. Featuring an all-analog circuit, dual-band tone controls, level and drive knobs and a voicing switch to tweak the bass response, you are set from creamy leads over riff-heavy stadium rock to modern, angst-ridden grunge.

By ramping up the voltage to more than 3-4 times the amount of your typical drive pedals, we achieved a dramatic increase in terms of headroom and dynamics, giving you a pedal with a range of sounds matched by none out there. There is plenty of gain to suit any kind of musical style, but the sound always stays very open and clear and it will never get muddy or cover up your playing.

Instead, Dark Matter Distortion has a very open character, no matter if you use it as a slight ‘AC/DC-ish’ crunch or as a full-blown, fire-breathing dragon, this pedal will always let your playing shine through. All Dark Matter Distortion will do to your sound is add degrees of distortion and leave your precious tone alone.

I should win this pedal because that Jimi sound is Awesome!

I wish to win this pedal because it rocks!

I should win this pedal because the world needs more crunch to power the future, and I'm here to help... wall melting will ensue upon it's arrival! Warping of the minds of youth will follow. The establishment will quiver in dread of the monstrous tones that shall be emitted... saturation of the sonic spectrum is inevitable!

Peter Trott's picture

I should win this pedal because in the Yin and Yang nature of the universe, none are so blind as those who cannot see, and none can see in the dark. So, you might ask, does the Dark Matter? You bet it does! Light would be nothing without it, just like the substance (if any) of this paragraph. That's why I should win: to shut me up! (And the fact that I'm your father, Luke, has nothing to do with it.)

Julian Kronenberg's picture

I should win this pedal because it would keep my dream (or let's better say illusion) alive to get at least near the Hendrix-sound!

Chuck Platt's picture

I should win this because I like my metal like my coffee: black and sludgy.

Jeremy Loncar's picture

I should win this pedal because like this pedal, I matter! Not so dark, a bit on the light and funnier side, but when you combine how much I matter with the Dark Matter, magic will happen! Hell maybe even world peace! Or another complaint by my neighbors for being too loud.

Jimmy Arcade's picture

I should win this pedal because it would be a great substitute for DND. While I don't get geeked out for DND, I could certainly get geeked out over DMD! All you have to do is replace the middle letter!

I should win this pedal because I would feel special and loved if I won it. Because I'm good enough. I'm smart enough. And doggone it, people like me

Spencer Smith's picture

I demand to win this pedal because you have no right to keep it from me! You think you can keep us apart, don't you!? Who the hell do you think are!? You couldn't keep us apart if you were the Grand Canyon and I were a very unskilled motorcyclist with a poorly constructed ramp made of a log I found by the river the other day and the pedal were on the other side! You couldn't keep us apart if you made a time traveling machine and took the pedal back in time to stop yourself from making a time machine just so you could leave the pedal in the past! I would just go to college and get some kind of doctorate in Insane Stupiphysics and get a grant from the government to build my own time machine! And my time machine will be better than yours! It will have FOUR cupholders! AND A MINIBAR.

i should win this pedal for two reasons: 1) i live in italy and since the people in USA participating to giveaways is so much, there is a very low probability of winning on this side of the ocean... and even if it isn't anybody's fault (except maths'!) i find it is unfair.
2) i like british distortion a lot and i like pedals that behave like amps: dynamic, touch sensitive, and that clean up well with the guitar's volume knob.

I should win this pedal because I will prove that dark matter do exist! and it rock!!

I should win this as the Dark Matter is the final requirement in my diabolical schemes upon gaining the use of it, the distortion we will create will tear at the very fabric of the universe and chaos will reign...your beer will turn to water, all your left socks will vanish...all fast food restaurants will have only veggie burgers in stock and no ketchup...and all reality tv shows will be banished to darkest depths of the abyss so at least there will be something to look forward to...:)

I should win this pedal because I am a fan of Stephen Hawkings and he talks about dark matter all the time

Yossi Chen's picture

I should win this pedal because every time I don't win a pedal - a small kitten dies. You don't HATE small kittens now, do you?

Christiaan Breur's picture

I should win this pedal because scientists got a heck of a problem of finding dark matter in the universe and with this Dark Matter I can show them the right direction.

I should win this pedal for crunchy goodness.

Mathew Reames's picture

I should win because I have never owned a distortion pedal, I feel its time for me to branch out and get one. This seems like one of the best for everything I have read and seen TC Electronic is amazing. So help a brother out, let me get some distortion on my board.

I should win this pedal because I don't have any money to buy pedals. My wife and I are in a band together and I would use this like crazy. She would let me buy any pedal I want if I had the money, (so I married the right woman,) but we just don't have any money! I wanna win this so bad!

I should win this pedal cause I just listened to the Hendrix sample and Im gathering my brains off the floor

Ted Gomez's picture

I want to win a Dark Matter cause I don't think I will ever be ever to afford a real Plexi Amp and all I can say is "wow' with a Dark Matter you don't need one!

Yanick Burgund's picture

I should win this pedal because I fell into the dark side of Paul Gilbert's shredding style, and i don't have any dark matter to sustain it

Charlotte Reichert's picture

If you judge my english level, I shouldn't win this pedal, yes it's true. BUT ... ! Don't forgot, I'm just a french rocker girl who play in a band (a girl band, yes sir !) since only few months... And without distorsion effect, I look like Cinderella with a ukulele during a metal concert !!

So, I should win this pedal to prove to the girls that I can "envoyer du gros son" (=play good f***** rock !!!)

Thousand "thank you" for your mercy on my desperate soul and my pathetic English !

reubenjacob's picture

I should win this pedal because for me Dark Matter is all that matters ! ... and i don't have a good distortion pedal yet and this would be just perfect :)

Nice distortion pedal is what i like, love and need! that is why I should win it!

For the past seventeen years, I have been slowly building my time machine. I'm trying to plan my 2012 Time Tour. Here are the stops: Poland in 1938 to warn them about Hitler, Kalamazoo in 1959 to buy the first Les Paul burst off the production line, and London in 1966 to get Raquel Welch's phone number. I can't really think of anywhere else in time I'd like to go. Here's the problem: my time machine is lacking one essential circuit, without which it will not work. It coincidentally happens that the TC Electronic Dark Matter is the exact same circuit that will complete my time machine. I guess I could build the circuit myself since I built the rest of the time machine, but I am lazy. I guess I could buy a Dark Matter pedal, but I just spent my whole paycheck on these sweet alligator skin boots.

Jorden Finne's picture

I should win this pedal because both the looks and power of this pedal will heavily compliment my drop-tuned guitar when I am playing out metal riffs with which to wake my neighbors.

Bob Beckman's picture

I need to win this pedal because my playing sucks and maybe this will help.

mike brown's picture

I need to win this pedal because it contains a rare element required to power a weapon i am developing that will be necessary in order to protect the Earth from an imminent alien invasion from the planet Mytonesux in the galaxy of Pleeeeseman!.

I should win this pedal because I like soun what coms through this pedal

I should win this pedal because with it I can finally conclude my master plan to rule the earth and unleash the metal within all of you! (muhahaha)

I should win this pedal because I am old enough to have been around when plexis were all the rage but too poor to afford one, and still am. So this is the next best thing

Joe Brackman's picture

I needs the Plexious! I needs it! It was my birthday present but I lost it! Please! Give me back the Plexious! Srsly, I need this pedal.

Beck Mann's picture

I should win this pedal because it's what's been missing from my life!

Michael Pickett's picture

Look, I deserve this pedal and am--frankly--destined to receive it, because in addition to using it on the road 70 times a year and in the studio, I will also place it in the signal path of our church's pipe-organ, which will provide a great deal of much-needed church comedy and...perhaps, even bring back the return of the messiah of your choice!

alexandre criado's picture

I should win this pedal because matter is dark and dark is thy matter. The world is fading into black my deadly friend. Raven feathers are melting with the obscure power of my vampiric riffs and then are my tears raindrops falling into Hades. The Dark Matter distortion will be my boat of Charron so I will survive to the deep floors of the Afterlife. Hm. Or I will make a voodoo doll of you if I don't win. Or I will cry like a baby. Or just take another pizza. Whatever.
